Protect our trees

Let's stop our dependence on fossil fuel and eliminate the need to destroy our planet.  Cutting trees and mining more coal when we are shutting down facilities that burn coal makes no sense to our communities.  The feds need to recognize this and, as with nuclear, stop issuing license that expand our use of traditional fuels.

In January, we asked for your help to stop a loophole that would allow Arch Coal, the nation’s second-largest coal producer, from destroying thousands of acres of public lands in Colorado and mining over 170 million tons of coal. Because of your support, we generated over 12,000 public comments telling the US Forest Service (USFS) to protect our public lands and our climate by rejecting the Arch Coal loophole to the Colorado Roadless Rule.

Now, the company is asking to modify its existing lease with the USFS so it can build more roads, nearly 50 drill pads, and climate-polluting methane vents in Colorado’s Sunset Roadless Area. These modifications would devastate this pristine environment home to wildlife species from black bears to elk to lynx and release millions of tons of carbon into the air.
